 Les Reines du Valais - showpieces of the living heritage of VAL D' HERENS - are fighting cows, haughty and elegant, and you will meet them when the cattle are moved up to higher alpine pastures at the beginning of summer or on their return, as the best combatant among them wears the bell decorated with flowers of the appointed champion. The cantonal festival in May crowns the Queen of queens during fierce tussles watched by thousands of spectators.
Proud of its natural heritage of protected flora and fauna, SION REGION is also home to original sites such as the EUSEIGNE pyramids or the ST-LEONARD underground lake.
